Had an interesting "Missed Connections" experience? Please contact me.
Hey all. I am in the Creative Writing program at UBC, and I am writing an article about missed connections (like on Craigslist, or the Georgia Straight "I Saw Yous", etc.) for one of my classes. I need to interview some people who have had interesting experiences from posting or replying to missed connections ads. It doesn't need to have been successful in finding the person the ad was intended for, but just some sort of interesting result that came about from the ad. If you have had such an experience and are willing to meet up for an interview, please contact me! I can travel to wherever is convenient for you. Also, I intend to talk about the reasons why people post or read missed connections ads, so I need to get some quotes from people. If you regularly post/read missed connections, and would like to briefly talk about why you do, please contact me as well. This would not be as detailed, so it need not be in person; it could be over the phone or even through email. A bit about me: I'm a 21 year-old student at UBC, in the Creative Writing program as aforementioned. I enjoy reading missed connections of course, hence my choice of assignment. I love meeting new people and have done many interviews before. |

spices
Anyone know where to get some Ethiopian Berbere powder in downtown or East van? Preferably in bulk because I'd use a lot of it, too. The other thing I haven't seen since moving here a few months ago is Fine Herbes de Provence, anyone seen a good price for that anywhere? Thanks! |

Nerdy/Band Hoodies
I've grown very tired of wearing the same jacket that makes me look like a homeless person so I've decided to go out and buy a Hoody. The problem is that I'm a larger figure at XL/XXL and the obvious place of choice to find such a Hoody (Rock Shop, Comic Stores, Wallmart) either don't have what I'm looking for or don't carry XXL sizes (Rock Shop). So besides ordering online and/or waiting for someone to come to Vancouver where can one find a good hoody? I know... a weird where would you find it post cause it should be very easy.... It's not. Thanks. |

Broadcasting your iPod to the car radio - what frequency is best?
What frequencies do you find are best in the Lower Mainland, that give you the least interference? I find that 99.7 is generally pretty good, but sometimes, during rush hour, I get a lot of interference. Am wondering if there are some better frequencies out there? There seem to be so few usable ones in the Lower Mainland. |

Does dressew sell them? I live in richmond so busing there and finding out there don't have it would waste my time and really suck. Im going to give them a call tomorrow but I'm just hoping maybe someone in vancouver would know and could recommend a place for me at a decent price. thanks |

Do I need to get a passport for my baby to enter the US? We are going in April (by plane) when he will be 6 months old. I could Google this shit, but nothing strikes me as the obvious answer and I'm good accepting an anecdotal answer =) |

Give a Pint, Get a Pin
I donated blood today and saw this "promotion"... There's just enough time to donate within the next couple of weeks and still be able to donate then. I'm also half expecting VANOC to be up in arms, sicking their lawyers after CBS... Give a Pint, Get a Pin B.C. will be celebrating the biggest party in its history in 2010 and Canadian Blood Services wants you to join in on the fun – at a blood donor clinic!
From Feb. 1 to Mar. 31, a limited edition “Vancouver 2010” gold commemorative pin will be offered to all donors attending a blood donor clinic in B.C. as a way of saying thanks for saving lives and being a true hero this winter.
“When you think of the Olympics, donating blood isn’t exactly the first thing that comes to mind,” says Britt Andersen, Regional Donor Services Manager for the B.C. & Yukon Region. “And yet it’s so important for people not to forget about giving. Without blood donors, there can’t be blood recipients.”
In fact, we expect our blood collections in the Lower Mainland to decrease by about 15 per cent – or 650 units of blood – during the Games, based on the experience of blood centres located in former Olympic host cities.
“For such a big event, people tend to alter their routines, staying at home to avoid road closures and increased traffic,” says Andersen. “This mentality could greatly impact our clinics, and we want to encourage people from across the entire province to consider donating blood in February and March to help keep hospital patients healthy and safe.”
We need to collect 19,000 units of blood throughout the province in February and March. Please be a 2010 hero and donate blood at a B.C. blood donor clinic. Call 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283) today to book an appointment.
Canadian Blood Services’ “Vancouver 2010” commemorative pin will be available in the donor refreshment area at all B.C. clinics from Feb. 1 to Mar. 31 for anyone who attends a blood donor clinic.*

Dinner certificates?
Can anyone recommend some restaurants that sell gift certificates (in the form of monetary value or a set meal) at a nice restaurant that would be appropriate for parents? Something nice and romantic would be cool - any cuisine. Bonus points for places on the North Shore or near the Second Narrows. Thanks! |

Tony Parsons on the News Hour for the last time.
Is this the beginning of the end of an era in news broadcasting? Who will be next? Peter Mansbridge? Lloyd Robertson? Bill Good? Rumours are flying as to why Tony Parsons' retirement from the "country's top-rated supper-hour newscast" has been suddenly accelerated, but that's besides the fact. This Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009 at 6 p.m., Tony Parsons will anchor the News Hour on Global BC for the last time. The News Hour anchorman will give his final telecast tomorrow Vancouver Sun (and the Vancouver Province) and Global BC are owned by CanWest... lips sealed all around? |

Has anyone ever moved to a strange city with limited funds, nowhere to live and no job and was successful at doing it? If so how did you do it. I only ask as I moved back to California on a whim in September and live with family, but it was a total mistake to move back here, so now I am thinking of moving back there, but I will so be limited on funds and trying to get idea's and see if anyone has ever done something similiar. |

Can anyone recommend a good salon in or near Metrotown or Brentwood, OR within short walking distance from Granville Skytrain? 'Good' meaning good service, preferably offer massages or facials, and manicures that don't chip immediately? |

Scotch or Whiskey Tastings?
In my quest to find a present for one of the most difficult people to buy for ever (Thanks, Dad), I had the idea of getting him tickets to a Scotch or Whiskey Tasting. Google is not helping much, however. Does anyone know of anywhere in Vancouver that would do such a thing? Thanks! |

Another Christmas edition "where can I find" post! I'm looking for a men's t-shirt/sweatshirt/hoodie that has some sort of a stylised image of the Vancouver skyline on it. Something in a style similar to the Golden State Warriors "The City" logo ( like this). Basically, something cool that a local would be okay with wearing. Nothing tourist-y or cheese-y. I'll take anything you can offer at this point, all locations/prices considered. I've been looking for this as a gift for this person for a few years now & have never seen anything. I'm hoping someone here has seen something that I haven't! |
